The two main components in the form of superconducting magnets have successfully passed full testing.
In contrast to conventional nuclear power plants which use fission or splitting uranium atoms, this project uses fusion, namely combining hydrogen nuclei like the process that occurs on the Sun.
To run it, the plasma must be heated to more than 100 million degrees Celsius and held in place by a magnetic field so that it does not touch the reactor walls.
Advantages of fusion energy:
✅Does not produce carbon emissions during generation
✅Less radioactive waste compared to fission nuclear power plants
✅Very large energy potential
However, the challenges are still tough, especially keeping the plasma stable and producing energy greater than the energy needed to trigger the reaction.
