Hi everyone, Shalom Aleichem!
Good evening GanSist everyone!
Welcome back to the Nusantara Series, a series that invites us to explore Indonesia’s riches, from culture, culinary delights, local wisdom, tourist attractions, to the natural wonders that this country has. In the previous series we got to know Gerem Asem, a typical Banten culinary dish that has a refreshing sour and spicy taste. This time, our journey turns to Sumatra Island to visit one of the most important conservation areas in Southeast Asia, namely Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS).
When talking about national parks in Indonesia, many people immediately think of Komodo or Ujung Kulon. In fact, Kerinci Seblat has features that are no less extraordinary. This area stretches across four provinces, namely Jambi, West Sumatra, Bengkulu and South Sumatra. With an area of more than 1.3 million hectares, TNKS is one of the largest conservation areas in Indonesia and is part of Tropical Rainforest Heritage of SumatraUNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004.
Not only is it home to thousands of species of plants and wildlife, this national park also has the highest active volcano in Indonesia, stunning volcanic lakes, waterfalls, tropical rain forests and the largest flower in the world. All this wealth makes Kerinci Seblat a very attractive destination for nature lovers, researchers, photographers and tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of Indonesia in more depth.
So, why is Kerinci Seblat National Park worthy of being included in the list of must-visit destinations?

1. Becomes a UNESCO World Heritage Site
The first reason is of course related to the international recognition this region has.
Kerinci Seblat National Park is one of three national parks that are part of the area Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatraalong with Gunung Leuser National Park and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. This area is recognized by UNESCO because it has extraordinary conservation value, both in terms of biodiversity and ongoing geological processes.
Tropical rainforests in this area are estimated to be a habitat for around 10 thousand plant species, more than 200 mammal species and around 580 bird species, including many endemic and endangered species. This wealth makes Kerinci Seblat one of the most important biodiversity centers in the world.
Visiting an area that is recognized worldwide certainly provides a different experience. We not only enjoy the natural beauty, but also understand why this area has value that must be maintained for future generations.

2. Climbing Mount Kerinci Can Be a Very Motivating Experience
This is the reason that best fits the thread title.
Within the national park area stands Mount Kerinci with a height of around 3805 meters above sea level, making it the highest mountain in Sumatra as well as the highest volcano in Indonesia.
Climbing to the top requires physical and mental preparation. The route passes through tropical forests, mountain vegetation, and volcanic sandy areas before reaching the top. However, every step taken presents lessons about perseverance, patience and hard work.
Arriving at the top, climbers are treated to a wide panorama of the Bukit Barisan mountains, a sea of clouds and the active crater of Mount Kerinci. This view is often a moment that awakens feelings of gratitude and new enthusiasm.
It is not surprising that many climbers consider the journey to the peak of Kerinci to be a life experience that is difficult to forget.

3. Become a home for endangered Indonesian animals
The third reason relates to the richness of wildlife.
Kerinci Seblat National Park is an important habitat for various rare animals, such as Sumatran tigers, Sumatran elephants, Sumatran rhinos, Asian tapirs, sun bears, gibbons, and various types of hornbills. The existence of these animals shows that the forest ecosystem in this area still has very good quality.
Although the chance of meeting wildlife directly is relatively small due to their shy nature, knowing that we are in their natural habitat provides an experience in itself.
The existence of these animals also reminds us of the importance of protecting conservation areas so that endangered species still have a safe place to live.

4. Has magical flora that is hard to find elsewhere
Apart from animals, TNKS is also famous for its flora.
This area is a habitat for Rafflesia arnoldiithe largest single flower in the world, as well Amorphophallus titanumor giant corpse flower which is known as one of the largest compound flowers in the world. These two plants are the main attraction for researchers and tourists from various countries.
These flowers don’t bloom all the time so luck is needed to be able to witness them directly. However, when you managed to see them, the experience was very memorable because these two species are icons of Sumatra’s biodiversity.
This unique flora also shows that Indonesia is a megabiodiversity country that has extraordinary plant wealth.

5. Offers a very diverse range of natural tourism
The final reason is the diversity of natural landscapes that TNKS has.
Apart from Mount Kerinci, this national park has Lake Gunung Tujuh, which is known as one of the highest volcanic lakes in Southeast Asia. This area also has waterfalls, mountain rivers, grasslands, lowland forests and mountain forests, each of which has a different character.
Tourists can choose various activities, from mountain climbing, bird watching, nature photography, camping, trekking, to enjoying the cool mountain air.
The diversity of the natural landscape makes a visit to Kerinci Seblat feel like visiting several destinations at once.
