The General Election Commission (KPU) needs to be overhauled. So, the KPU abolished KPU Regulation (PKPU) No. 4 of 2021 which was pro-women. In this regulation, KPU members from central to district/city must maintain attitudes and actions so as not to undermine personal integrity. These include distancing oneself from acts of violence, sexual violence, infidelity and unregistered marriages.
The elimination of the code of ethics for election organizers has been questioned by the National Commission on Violence Against Women. Komnas Perempuan Commissioner, Dewi Kanti, said that currently there are several immoral cases being handled by the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP). In the 2017-2022 period, DKPP handled 25 cases of sexual violence and were tried. And the cases take various forms, including physical and sexual violence, restrictions on women’s rights and movements in politics, and the dismissal of female candidates.
Imagine, even if there is a code of ethics that is pro-women, election organizers still violate it, especially if there isn’t one. Hopefully the KPU can revoke this deletion.
