Papua has once again become a national and international concern after a pilot from the United States was killed in an attack on a civil aircraft in Yahukimo, Papua Mountains. Indonesian authorities then succeeded in evacuating the victim’s body, while seven passengers were reported to be safe.
This incident once again highlights the security situation in Papua which is still characterized by conflict between armed groups and the Indonesian government. Apart from having an impact on security forces, the conflict also threatens the safety of civilians and disrupts the distribution of logistics and important services to remote areas.
The government emphasizes its commitment to maintaining security stability and protecting the community, while various parties hope that conflict resolution can be achieved through dialogue and peaceful efforts so that the security and welfare of the Papuan people can continue to be improved.
