I often hear business owners say, “If you have lots of employees, it means your business is big.” However, in reality this is not always the case. Adding employees can indeed help the work become lighter, but this decision also brings much greater responsibility.
Before recruiting new people, I usually recommend first seeing whether the work can no longer be handled by the existing team. Sometimes the problem is not due to a lack of people, but rather the division of tasks is not neat or the work process is still messy. If the system is not good, adding employees can actually make the job more complicated.
Another thing to think about is the financial capabilities of the business. Paying employees is not just a matter of paying salaries every month. There are training costs, work equipment, allowances, and various other operational needs. All of this must be calculated so that the business continues to run healthily.
In my opinion, employees are not just additional workers. They are people who bring good name to our business. Therefore, it is important to provide clear directions, a comfortable work environment, and good communication. A team that feels appreciated will usually work more optimally than a team that is only given targets without support.
I also believe that not all work needs to be done directly by permanent employees. For some needs, using freelancers or freelance workers can be a more efficient choice, especially if the volume of work is still unstable. That way, the business can still grow without excessive financial burden.
If I could give one message, don’t use the number of employees as a measure of the success of a business. What’s more important is how productive the team you have is and whether the business is able to provide a healthy income for everyone involved. Businesses that grow gradually usually have a stronger foundation than businesses that grow too quickly without preparation. So, before opening a new vacancy, make sure the work system, financial condition and business needs are truly ready. That way, everyone who joins can make the best contribution and help the business develop in the long term.
