The Indonesian government is increasing its preparedness to face the increasingly dynamic security situation in the Middle East region. This step was taken as a form of protection for thousands of Indonesian citizens (WNI), including migrant workers, students, congregation members and other citizens residing in a number of countries in the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) together with various related ministries and institutions have prepared various contingency scenarios if security conditions worsen. These preparations include mapping the location of Indonesian citizens, updating citizen data, coordinating with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI), as well as preparing safe evacuation routes.
Apart from that, the government also continues to monitor developments in the situation through Indonesian diplomatic representatives in various Middle Eastern countries. The latest information will be the basis for determining further steps if necessary.
For Indonesian citizens who are in affected areas, the government urges them to always follow directions from the Indonesian Embassy, avoid potentially dangerous locations, maintain communication with their families in Indonesia, and ensure that travel documents remain valid.
The government has also strengthened coordination with local authorities, airlines and international partners to ensure that the evacuation process can be carried out quickly and safely if an emergency does occur.
Even though up to now there has been no decision on a mass evacuation, the government emphasizes that all anticipatory steps have been prepared to ensure the safety of every Indonesian citizen abroad. People in Indonesia are also asked to remain calm and follow official information from the government so as not to be influenced by unverified news.
The security and safety of Indonesian citizens remains the main priority of the Indonesian government amidst ongoing developments in the geopolitical situation.
