President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia is on track to stop importing diesel fuel following the biodiesel program B50 starting to show positive results.
B50 is a fuel mixture consisting of 50% palm oil based biodiesel and 50% fossil based diesel. This program is part of the government’s strategy to reduce Indonesia’s dependence on imported fuel and strengthen national energy security.
According to the government, the success of the B50 program can help Indonesia significantly reduce the need for diesel imports. By utilizing more domestically produced palm oil raw materials, Indonesia can reduce spending on buying fuel from abroad.
This policy is also expected to:
(a.) Reduce dependence on fuel imports
(b.) Save the country’s foreign exchange
(c.) Increasing the use of renewable energy
(d.) Support the national palm oil industry
(e.) Strengthening Indonesia’s energy security
However, implementing B50 also faces a number of challenges, including infrastructure readiness, fuel quality and compatibility with various types of diesel engines, as well as the need to ensure the supply of palm oil raw materials remains stable.
If this program goes according to plan, Indonesia can enter a new phase in the energy sector with lower dependence on diesel imports
