Excuse me momod, admin, and all of you guys…
I want to discuss something that I initially thought was just a conspiracy theory or copypasta on the internet, but it turns out… THIS IS A 100% REAL HISTORICAL FACT, GAN! 🤯
So the story goes, someone said that the city of Boston smells sweet in the summer. The reason? Because once there was a giant molasses company whose tank burst and created a “molasses tsunami”. Sounds like a hoax or a creepypasta story, right? But wait a minute, this is dark history that will make you shake your head.
Check out the crazy facts below:
1. A giant tank that is actually a “time bomb” 💣
Back to 1919. In the North End area, Boston, there was a company called Purity Distilling Company. They have a giant holding tank 15 meters high, 27 meters in diameter. The contents? 2.3 million gallons (8.7 million liters) of molasses aka molasses! It weighs around 12,000 tons, bro.
The problem is, this tank was made haphazardly. The steel is too thin, it was never really tested (never even filled with water to test whether it would leak or not). Anyway, the management of this company has finished chasing targets.
2. Fermentation + Warm Weather = SWEET Apocalypse 🌡️
So, this molasses is going to be fermented to make ethanol (industrial alcohol). This fermentation process produces CO2 gas which makes the pressure inside the tank increase every day.
Unfortunately, on January 15 1919, the weather in Boston suddenly got really hot (dramatically rising from minus temperatures). This heat makes the molasses expand and the fermentation gets even crazier. The pressure rises, the already fragile tank can’t hold it together… and BOOM! 💥
3. TSUNAMI MOLASE 56 MPH! 🌊🏃♂️
Bro, don’t imagine molasses dripping slowly like syrup on pancakes. When 8.7 million liters spilled together, gravity turned it into an 8 meter high brown tsunami traveling at 56 km/hour!
His strength? Hilarious but scary, bro. Brick buildings collapsed, houses were destroyed, even train cars rolled off the tracks because of the weight of this molasses wave. There were no people on the streets who had time to run.
4. Casualties and Sticky Oceans 🕯️
This is the sad part. This incident killed 21 people and injured 150 people. Many were killed by falling debris, but there were also those who actually drowned in a sea of molasses.
Molasses is thick and very sticky. People who are trapped cannot swim or move. When the air temperature drops again, the molasses hardens and traps the victim like a fossil in amber. The SAR team took days to evacuate and clean the city using sea water. (RIP to the victims 🙏)
5. Boston Smells Sweet for Decades (Not a Myth!) 🍯
So, back to the beginning of the story. The remains of this molasses seep into the soil, wood and brick. It’s very difficult to clean.
The effect? For decades after the incident, Boston residents (especially in the North End) felt something strange: Every summer, the city smelled sweet like candy! The heat of the sun causes the remaining molasses that is hidden in the soil or pores of buildings to evaporate and give off a sweet aroma. This isn’t a hoax, bro, local residents actually experienced this until the 1970s!
TL;DR:
Boston was hit by a molasses tsunami as high as 8 meters as fast as 56 km/hour in 1919 due to a storage tank that was not built properly. 21 people died, and the city smelled sweet every summer for decades. Historical facts, not conspiracies!
How are you bro? Sometimes real history is far more bizarre and crazy than any conspiracy theory. This tragedy ultimately made work safety laws and construction regulations in America stricter.

Waiting for the green cendol from you guys,
and sorry if there are any wrong words. Greetings! ✌️
