The National Police proposed an additional budget of IDR 66.18 trillion for the 2027 budget year.

Previously, the government set the Polri’s indicative ceiling at IDR 118 trillion. However, the National Police assesses that the ideal need next year will reach IDR 184.18 trillion, after taking into account the increase in fuel prices and the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar.

The additional budget is planned to be used for several main needs.

First, IDR 4.5 trillion for personnel expenditure, including the impact of changes to the retirement age limit for Polri members, increases in remuneration, salaries, allowances and the acceptance of new members.

In the latest National Police Law, the retirement age limit has changed to a maximum of 59 years for enlisted and non-commissioned officers, and 60 years for officers. Especially for high-ranking four-star officers, the retirement period can be extended by one year according to the President’s decision.

Second, IDR 20.9 trillion for spending on goods, including security preparations for the 2029 elections, inquiries and investigations, police operations, disaster management, mass riots and VVIP security.

Third, IDR 40.6 trillion for capital expenditure, such as electric public service vehicles, special Brimob vehicles, official residences for members of the National Police, and special equipment for security for the 2029 elections.

DPR Commission III stated that it accepted Polri’s explanation and would fight for the additional budget so that the total Polri budget for 2027 would be IDR 184.18 trillion.

In your opinion, this additional budget of IDR 66 trillion is reasonable for security needs and election preparations? Or does it need to be monitored more closely so that its use is truly targeted?
